| About the curriculum... The RMATA curriculum is designed to help you keep track of your training progression and to motivate you along your martial arts journey. It also makes each student a teacher and a fighter. It is filled with realistic, usable techniques selected for their simplicity and effectiveness instead of flashy techniques that only work with a cooperative training partner. Each any every technique in this curriculum has proven to be effective against opponents who were resisting 100%. In other words, they are all realistic. This curriculum is not designed to see how many techniques can be jammed into one system. Instead it gives you several simple options no matter what range of combat or position you are in. This is not intended to be a complete list of all techniques; no such list exists. This is a guide and a minimum requirement, to which you will undoubtedly add much to. It contains "the basics" from every range of combat and position that every martial artist should know. Concepts and techniques in this curriculum have been passed down through many of the top martial artists the world has ever known from many styles. There are 10 ranking levels with 50 to 100 things to learn and apply per level. Each level builds upon these following basic building blocks that flow together throughout the levels; - Concepts and psychological strategies - Warmups/ Drills/ Exercises - Weapons - Striking - Entering to clinching - Cinching - Takedowns/ throws - Every ground position (at least 31 per level) - Submissions and striking from every position How do I get promoted in this curriculum? You must be do the following in a rank test with a certified level 7 or above RMATA instructor; - Properly explain every concept. - Properly teach every technique as you would to someone with no knowledge of it. - Perform each technique at full speed in a demonstration. - Satisfy the additional requirements in a particular level. Those additional requirements include more sparring and grappling in each range of combat in each level, and competing in various combat sports at higher levels. This ensures that your attributes (cardiovascular conditioning, speed, strength, timing, etc) are increasing with each level, along with your ability to perform each technique against 100% resistance. After all, this system is not designed to feed your ego by just teaching you lots of techniques that you might not be able to perform in a real fight, but instead it will help you become a very effective fighter in all ranges of combat in a real fight. Can I test others and award them with rank in this system? Those certified at level 7 and above can test and promote others up to one level below their own. Testing can be done in person or through video mailing. All students will receive level certificates for all levels obtained with their immediate instructor's and the RMATA president's names on them. Certificates can be e-mailed to students who pass any level's test, or mailed out on a nice, signed, embossed official certificate for a small fee. Extreme concern is placed on ensuring that the system remains legitimate and constant throughout all students. An obligation of obtaining rank in the RMATA is to insure with complete integrity that anyone whom you may promote has properly and successfully completed all of the requirements for the given level that they have been promoted to. Why does the RMATA ranking system exist? The RMATA ranking system exists not only to help you keep track of your progress and motivate you to achieve higher levels, but also to ensure that you aren't fooling yourself about what really works in a real fight. By learning these combat proven techniques in every range of combat, drilling them into muscle memory, and testing them against resisting opponents in your training, you are putting the "martial" back in the martial arts (after all, "martial" means "combat"). This is the missing ingredient of many "martial" arts schools who have never known what combat is really all about. Politics and money issues do not drive this ranking system. You can't buy or talk your way into a certain rank. You must simply prove that you are at a given level by satisfying it's requirements. There are no rank testing fees, other than paying whatever your instructor charges for his or her time. A student can test for a particular level whenever he or she desires, if ever. When a student can satisfy all of the requirements for a given level, as demonstrated in a rank test with a level 7 instructor or above, they are awarded that rank. They are then authorized to wear the appropriate belt/ stripe combination when and if they wear a GI. In this system getting rank is black and white; you see exactly what it takes to get each rank and you will have to earn each level through your diligent study of the material and more importantly your application of it in realistic training against resisting opponents. Enjoy the journey!! The curriculum is currently being edited. DVD's of all levels will be released in the future. Please check back soon! |
